The Journey of a Dream: CEO of Hello Africa Tour, LLC

My name is Sylvestre Akakpo Adzaku, and my story begins in the vibrant and culturally rich nation of Togo, nestled in West Africa. Growing up, I was surrounded by the beauty of my homeland—the rhythmic drumming of traditional ceremonies, the vibrant fabrics that told stories with their patterns, and the warmth of a community where everyone was family. These early experiences shaped my identity and instilled a profound love for African culture and heritage.

When I moved to the United States and eventually became a U.S. citizen, I carried with me not only memories of Togo but also a strong desire to share the beauty of Africa with the world. Living in a new country opened my eyes to the deep connections and shared histories between Africa and the African diaspora. I often met people who yearned to reconnect with their roots, understand their heritage, or explore the continent's wonders. Their stories inspired me, but I also realized a gap: there weren’t enough avenues to facilitate these connections in a meaningful and authentic way.

The idea for Hello Africa Tour, LLC, was born out of this realization. I envisioned a platform that would bridge the gap between Africa and the world, fostering connections that go beyond tourism. I wanted to create experiences that celebrated African culture, history, and traditions while also honoring the journeys of the African diaspora. Hello Africa Tour, LLC would not only serve as a gateway for those seeking to learn about Africa but also as a beacon of pride for Africans and their descendants worldwide.

In addition to my work as a tour operator, I am deeply involved in the arts and cultural scene. As the President and founder of Weva Africa, a nonprofit organization based in Togo, I organized and hosted dance and tourism festivals in January 2023 and January 2024. These festivals brought together artists, travelers, and community members to celebrate African heritage through dance, music, and storytelling. I also led a two-week dance workshop and training program at the Weva Africa festival in January 2024, which provided young adult African artists with opportunities to develop their skills and showcase their talents. The program culminated in a final community show featuring 20 dancers and musicians, an event that highlighted the transformative power of art and collaboration.

As the founding artist, choreographer, and dancer of Company SYAKAD in Togo, I have dedicated my career to nurturing the next generation of artists and promoting African dance on the global stage. My experiences as a dancer, choreographer, teacher, stage production manager, and tour manager have enriched my perspective and deepened my commitment to creating meaningful cultural exchanges.

Building this dream was not without its challenges. I had to navigate the complexities of the travel industry, learn about sustainable tourism practices, and find ways to create authentic experiences that honored local communities. But my passion for connecting people and my belief in the transformative power of travel kept me going. I collaborated with local guides, historians, and artisans from across Africa to craft itineraries that showcased the continent’s diversity—from the bustling markets of Accra to the serene landscapes of the Serengeti.

One of the most rewarding aspects of this journey has been witnessing the impact of these connections. I've seen members of the African diaspora return to their ancestral lands, their eyes filled with emotion as they step onto the soil of their forebears. I've watched travelers from all walks of life immerse themselves in African culture, leaving with a deeper understanding and appreciation of the continent. These moments reaffirm my belief in the importance of what we do.

Hello Africa Tour, LLC, is more than a business; it is a mission. It’s about telling Africa’s stories—stories of resilience, beauty, and unity—and ensuring they are heard and celebrated around the globe. It’s about creating a space where people can reconnect with their roots, forge new connections, and leave with a piece of Africa in their hearts.

As I look to the future, I am filled with hope and excitement. The Journey of connecting Africa with the world has just begun, and I am committed to making it a bridge that stands strong for generations to come. Through Hello Africa Tour, LLC, I aim to celebrate the rich tapestry of African culture and heritage while inviting everyone to be a part of the story.
